How I Realized I am an Artist Animal

Nova Cynthia's Artist Wake Up Call:

     How My Story begins;
I come from a family of highly creative beings:
    Dancers, Storytellers, Oral Historians,Theologians,
Designers, Quilt Makers, Tailors, Cabinet Makers, Farmers,
Writers, Poets, Sculptors, Folk Artists, Painters, Photographers,
    Educators, you name it.
And Painting was just another of many creative pursuits
that were a daily part of my life: Poetry, Journaling,
Writing Short Stories, Designing, Sewing, Dancing with my
Mother, Sister, Grandmothers and Aunts and Play
acting with my Sister and Cousins.

I had never considered it as a Profession until one day,
at the age of nineteen, I saw O'Keefe's Red Poppy, Joshua Tree
and three other Imgages reproduced in Reader's Digest:
In that moment The Top of my Crown Chakra Opened up into
a Thousand Petaled Lotus: and I realized THAT
a Modern Artist could Translate what She saw around her
into a Visual Language Expressing the Spirit of a thing
rather than simply creating a copy of it. Which I found boring,
the real thing is more exciting I use to argue with my mom in
front of Rembrant's Paintings, it was only when I discovered
his tiny etchings that I saw the Spirit of Genuis in his work.
    BOOMERANG!!!
Before then I thought all the Powerful Spirit-Filled Art
had been produced in earlier times and other cultures: Work I loved
and studied; Japanese Woodblock Prints, Russian Religious Icons,
Persian Miniatures, African and Greek Sculpture, Egyptian and American
Indian Artifacts. Of course, I also Loved Van Gogh, Maurice Pendergast,
and Chide Hassam; but I thought they had covered all that ground already.

Until O'Keefe, and then I knew that I to was an Artist Animal
like O'Keefe. And with that knowing I made a Vow to Create a
Visual Language of Symbols in Paint To Translate, Express and
Acknowledge The Essential Spirit Of Life
I Witnessed All Around and Within Me...

When I go out of Here

When I go out of here
it won't be crying and screaming in fear
I'll do all that now with you.

When I go out of here
I'll be calm and clean and clear
moving as a line of white light
    connecting to my source,
    Into the womb of night
with sparkling white lights all around me...
    all the way home.

    True Innocence

Ever since I was nineteen I've know that,
    The first Innocence is given and the second one is claimed;
I claim my right to live in Innocence, That said, What is True Innocence?
I've been asking myself this question for a couple of weeks now,
and this is what I came up with as a working definition for my life:

True Innocence is not a lack of experience
It is the willingness to continuingly engage...

    Love Rains, Remaining

    Love Rains, Remaining

Love rains in my open heart,
    remaining long after the
passing of the forms it comes through,
was_is always present; embedded as light in my cells,
awakened by tiny, tender acts of compassion, unexpected gifts,
delivered with a smile or tears.
Makes it's many appearances in the form of a lover,
daughter, father, mother, husband, friend, uncle, aunt, cousin, sister, nephew, neighbor,
a person I encounter without ever knowing their name.
A little bird singing a hymn for me, The sun and just how perfectly it's warming my body right now.
Sunlight and shadows dancing across the floor
while I'm meditating, casting my lotus Buddha form
    as a shadow puppet show, for my psyche;
to become aware of, contemplate and honor.

    Words Melt Too

    Words melt too_like snow
    into a soul whose heart
    honed with gratitude,
    has become a
    half moon bowl
    ready to receive ...

Healing Is One Healing Thought One Moment At A Time

This thought came to me during a lucid moment of clear thinking, more of these are happening as I continue to unfold in my practice of Christian Mysticism, Shamanism, Tibetan Buddhism and Brain Science.
     I've been experiencing serious health challenges both Dental and Thyroid, so in my scientific and esoteric studies and research of how mind effects matter- I am focusing on how I-WE can facilitate healing this beautiful body temple we are experiencing our beingness in;
This thought came through as a mantra:
Healing Is One Healing Thought One Moment At A Time.

    Lotus

Lotus, is a delicate, even demure, Venus de Milo inspired, Self- Portrait in Watercolor. The First of The Dreaming Angels Series. A spontaneous expression created in my studio in El Rito, which was in a sun room with the dazzling morning light of the New Mexico desert washing over my bare skin, leaving only the palest high key color tones to draw from.

    Body of Light: New Watercolor

"Body of Light," is a Watercolor painted from life in full spectrum sunlight It Is the latest In a Series Of Self Portraits where I'm using body language to explore how it feels to me to be a Human Spirit experiencing life through a female body...I've always loved the fragmented Greek and Roman Statues and especially The Winged Torso of Nike and The Venus De Milo. They are a big influence on this work in that I have chosen to focus on and use the torso area of my body specifically to project my feelings, thoughts and experiences within this lovely female body.
